In the Natisone Valleys, even the houses have names. Casa – Hiša Lukežu is one of the oldest homes in the village of Spignon, located on one of the mountain slopes of the municipality of Pulfero. The oldest written document proving its existence is a notarial deed from 1649, issued during the time of the Republic of Venice. Recent studies suggest that the name "Spignon," identical to that of a lighthouse in the Venetian lagoon, may indicate that it was a designated escape route for a knightly order once residing in the cave. The cave itself can still be easily reached today by a path through woods and meadows. From Spignon, at the crossroads marked by the ancient Church of the Holy Spirit — a stop along the Cammino Celeste pilgrimage route — you can reach the Chiarò Valley and, continuing on, the Torre Valley. These areas, once the setting of World War I battles (you can still see the trenches dug by soldiers during Italy's attempt to stop the Austro-Hungarian advance after the Caporetto retreat), are now ideal for hiking or biking.
